Hosted by Kevin Muth
Start location: At the Xmas tree at the corner of N. Front St and Wall St. in uptown Kingston
This will be our 4th year in Kingston (but it’s been happening in NYC and other cities for 30 years.)
We’ve done it in more than a foot of snow, and a beautiful 55 degree evening, and in a wintry mix of sleet and rain and each time is so memorable and special.
Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night:
Unsilent Night is an original composition by Phil Kline, written specifically to be heard outdoors in the month of December. Since the first one in 1992, it’s been performed in cities all over the world. This is the 30th Anniversary of the piece and will be extra special.
The event is moving boombox parade where multiple speakers make one shimmering, seasonal composition. Each participant downloads a track from a website or loads an app onto their phone. We all meet up at the same place and all the participants press play at the same time. Then we head out and walk a carefully chosen 45 minute route through the streets of Kingston, creating a unique mobile sound sculpture that's different from every listener’s perspective.
